A very interesting Exposition claret jug by John Figg, London 1866

John Wilmin Figg was born in Kenton, Middlesex in 1811.
He was listed in the 1835 Electoral Register at 6 Denmark Street, Soho, much earlier than the date he entered a mark at Goldsmiths Hall from that address and whilst he is recorded elsewhere in the interim this became his permanent address.
Indentures were signed in 1836 by William Deane of Kent to be his apprentice at Wellington Street.
He married Elizabeth, the daughter of William Abeling a watchmaker, at Holy Trinity, Islington in 1840.
They were still resident at Wellington Street for the 1841 UK Census and their son John Henry Walter was born there in 1843. John Henry died at 6 Denmark Street in 1852.
John and Elizabeth were listed at 6 Denmark Street, Soho in the UK Census records from 1851-1881.
John Wilmin Figg also died there in 1886.
He was buried at Norwood Cemetery.
His Will was proved for probate in 1886; the value of his estate was £1761 and 12 shillings.
Further detail and history of the business can be found in Volume I page 157 of The Directory of Gold and Silversmiths Jewellers and Allied Traders 1838-1914 by John Culme.
