Click to read about the history of this jug ! Date/Time: 10.01.2010 14:39:42 History: John McMillin was the owner and captain of the river boat, The Silver Wave. He and his ship were instrumental in ending the blockade at Vicksburg. (See Sherman's autobiography, the Steele Bayou episode, wherein the good captain's name is misspelled.) After the war, Captain McMillin returned to his home Pittsburgh where he patented the first successful steam capstan. His fortune was made by suing those miscreants who failed to pay royalties. Fortune in hand, he married and produced two children. One, a daughter died in childhood. The other was the family heir, Albion Steele McMillin. The captain died of a heart attack in his late forties. It was then discovered that the son also suffered from a defective heart. For his health Albion was sent to the West Coast, traveled the world extensively and was renowned for his conversation (he hardly spoke but listened attentively while puffing his cigar). Albion married into the Bryce family (of Bryce Brothers now Lenox) and produced three daughters. The youngest was Emily Bryce McMillin Terry the late owner of the items! Then i bought it at Ebay and now it is in my collection - it is a great honour for me to have this jug in my collection !
